Marriage is God's order: a covenant of two people before God, sustained by honour, faithfulness and truth. The crises of a marriage are healed not by keeping up appearances but by courageously speaking the truth and taking responsibility.
An abusive marriage or relationship is to be condemned: its continuation is not supported; changing and repairing it is always the primary concern. God, Jesus and the Madonna do not want a person to suffer abuse until the grave.
For those who repent and also make amends for their failings, God's grace opens a way.
